Linden Shawl

Finally got some proper shots of my Linden Shawl by Kelbourne Woolens this afternoon! The lighting still wasn't great, but I'm thankful we got to go outside to get some pictures anyhow.  I discovered this pattern at a trunk show and though it isn't something I would normally choose, as soon as I put the sample around my shoulders I knew I had to have one.  I found the dress at Goodwill just recently and it reminded me of some old feed sack fabric my great great grandmother kept.

Wine & Design

This week I had the opportunity to go to our local Wine & Design.  I originally scheduled the class before Mother's Day, but came down with a pretty nasty sickness and wasn't able to attend.  Thankfully, they repeated that the picture from that night - it just screams Mom to me!  It was my first time painting on a canvas and while the final result isn't perfect, Mom loves it and that's what matters to me :)

Yarn Along

Joining with Ginny at Small Things for today's Yarn Along!

I'm still knitting on my Venus Cardigan sample for Swans Island.  Currently working up the second sleeve... I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!  After this sleeve all I have left is the neck band.  Knitting has been a slow go since I've been painting my house this week (more on that later!).  At this rate, I should finish by next week.

I finished up Anne of Green Gables and started reading (okay, mostly listening to) Bleak House after finding the BBC series on Netflix.  I'm trying to watch the video series as I read the book (all 1063 pages of it!) but it's sooo hard to stop watching!

P.S.  I'm really loving my bento bags from Fringe Supply Co.  I imagine they'd be pretty to whip up with a sewing machine as well.

A Gift

My Mama found this box at a yard sale recently and it made her think of me (since I'm an avid collector of small treasures and trinkets).  After she heard it's story, she was sold on buying it for me. Its original owner was a tuna fisherman who traveled to and from Indonesia quite often.  He, too, enjoyed bringing home treasures that he found on his many journeys across the globe.  This little box was one of them - he bought it for his wife as a token of his love while he was away.  It's made of Indonesian teak wood, and had a sweet, pink paper lining inside (sadly, my allergies wouldn't tolerate the paper so it had to go).  Now I just have to figure out what to fill it with... any ideas?

First Yarn Along

Joining with Ginny at Small Things for today's Yarn Along!

Lately I've been making time to knit a Venus Cardigan sample for Swans Island.  The best part about it - I'll be repaid in yarn credit (yum!).  If you haven't tried their yarn you simply must!  The design is extremely simple, but I could definitely see it as a wardrobe staple.  Since the stockinette lends itself to multitasking, I've been catching up on Anne of Green Gables on Overdrive.  This is my first time reading the book, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it!  I find myself wishing my imagination was as remarkable as Anne's.  Now to find the rest of the series...

In other news, I got this lovely little skein this week.  I didn't really need it, but I had $5 off, and then Eat.Sleep.Knit offered an additional $5 off as an apology for some sort of glitch in their system, so why not? It's going to be a Lapwing hat.  This will be my first time using Spud & ChloĆ« and I'm so excited!

A Beginning

I'm not an eloquent writer or a wonderful photographer.  I don't have a stunning house or a knack for styling the many objects in it.  I am a blog lover - I'm awed and inspired by so many lovely blogs that I thought I'd try my hand at keeping my own.  Nervous and excited to see what becomes of it!
